FOS Rearrangement and Expression in Cementoblastoma

Cementoblastomas are rare odontogenic tumors developing in close proximity to the roots of teeth. Due their striking morphologic resemblance osteoblastomas peripheral skeleton, we set out determine whether cementoblastomas harbor same FOS rearrangements with overexpression c-FOS as has recently been described for osteoblastomas. In total, 16 were analyzed expression by immunohistochemistry and fluorescence situ hybridization (FISH). We observed strong diffuse staining 71% identified a rearrangement all cases (n=3) applicable FISH. remaining cases, FISH failed due decalcification. similar show like osteoblastomas, suggesting that both entities might represent parts spectrum disease.
